Marks and Spencer Wine Tasting Event

I love M&S! From clothes down to food are really amazing. But what we fail to notice is that M&S also have stacks of wines in the store.

Last Thursday, February 7, 2013 Marks & Spencer Philippines in partnership with Citibank had a Wine Tasting Activity at their store in Greenbelt 5.
 

M&S gave its Premium cardholders, Citibank cardholders, Nuffnang bloggers, as well as regular shoppers the opportunity to immerse their senses in the M&S finest selection of wines.

Ms. Chie Gatchalian

In this event, Chie Gatchalian, Wine Sommelier and Owner of 5 1/2 Twists (a wine education and party service) shared the intricacies of different varieties of wines. Chie is a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET Awardee), she has hosted wine appreciation nights for both private and corporate clients and teaches Basic Wine Appreciation courses as well as more advanced wine classes for a more mature wine-drinking clientele.

In her talk, Chie shared some tips on how to appreciate wines. The ‘shake-sniff-sip’ technique, helped the guests get to know more the character of each wine presented. She mentioned that Filipinos are used to drinking beer, but now many are getting acquainted to wine drinking.

Chie has recommended the right pairing of food and wine, from appetizer to main course and dessert, as well as wines that can also be used for cooking and even baking.

M&S offered a total of 10 wines during the wine tasting. The sparkling wine and Cav were very good (and well priced) and there were several others that caught my eyes. The majority of the wines they served were less than a thousand pesos a bottle.

One thing I like about their wines is that they give information on the back labels.  From tasting notes, where it explains and helps the shopper to know more about the wine. The icons on the bottle are actually very helpful,  it shows how dry the wines are, how full bodied and it even indicates if it's vegan and what's important is that it suggests the correct serving temperature and the period that it should be consumed.
